Interested in working with me?

Interested in working with me?

I’m looking for a “t-shaped” person to help expand my small User Experience team. Someone who is smart, web-savvy, and can handle multiple projects while evangelizing customer experience.

Our team is busy envisioning unseen solutions to complex design, business, and technology challenges. We’re trying to change the culture of a billion dollar travel company one prototype at a time. Our focus? How things should be, not how they are.

Like a startup, we have a small, passionate team and things move fast. Unlike a start-up, you don’t have to worry about 80 hour weeks, burnrates, or poor benefits. The company I work for has 9,000 employees in over 45 countries and a long successful history behind it.

Our campus is located in Southlake, TX (minutes away from an Apple Store!). And we enjoy working in the best suburb in Dallas/Ft. Worth area (no, really, it’s cool for a suburb).

We’re looking for the right people: Folks passionate about interaction design, information architecture, front-end development, design research, new technologies— in general ‘making things work for people’ (our mantra).

Sound interesting? (No, really I’m fun to work with!)

Metrolifestyle.com featured on screenspire.com

metrolifestyle.com on screenspire

My photoblog – metrolifestyle – has been featured on screenspire.com. Screenspire is a little different from other galleries in that they take a full screenshot, not just a thumbnail and a link. This leaves your designs to live forever online (or at least on archive.org).

I think most designers are glad to see their old designs fade when a new look is launched, but it’s also nice to see how the web looked at that moment in time…

Designer Career Pyramid

I went to Richland College last week to speak to a portfolio class about some things i’ve learned in the past 5+ years in the design field. Titled “10 things I wish they told me” (pdf) I went over things that I noticed students “missing” when I was in school.

One new slide i added (i also gave this talk at ATI earlier this year) was a model I call the “Designer Career Pyramid” (pdf). I wanted to show what I think is a somewhat typical growth/career chart was for a designer.

Starting at the bottom, in school you learn may different types of design – from video to print. As you move “up” the pyramid you start to narrow your skills to a particular design area that interests you. As you continue “up” you move from doing these things to thinking and directing these things, until at the “top” you become a expert at whichever part of the design field you’ve decide you enjoy most (hopefully!). I also added a pay scale to this model, more for the students, as I think college kids really want to know what they can make someday – these numbers were not really researched, but I think it’s possible.

I’ve had this idea in my head for awhile, but have never put it down on paper before. Download the Designer Career Pyramid and see for yourself.

Another Start

Yes, the internet needed another blog. I’ve decided to move some of my web properties (like they have any value) around and I think I’m about complete. The cssreboot gave me the kick-in-the-pants to get this site up, along with my photoblog metrolifestyle.

I’ll be tweaking this site over the next couple of weeks, but I’ve found a base I like – and will start here.

If you do not know who I am (and why would you) I write for a couple of sites, have a few photography websites and am a designer for Bright Corner during the day. You can learn more about me on my use-to-be-blog-now-homebase site jeremyjohnsononline.

Looking to the future I will be posting about design, technology, internet this-and-that – I currently write about photography on ilikecameras and pixelimpact.

At Bright Corner I’m a Designer among other things, you can view some of my work on my portfolio site digitalbauhas. My hobby is photography and on the side I’m a creative thinker.

Hope you will stay and chat!
